Justin (Jess) Kane first stepped on the ice at Ingalls Rink when he was 3 years old and was introduced to the sport of hockey by legendary coach Karl Marottolo. Jess played at Yale Youth Hockey thru pee wee when he and his family moved the Hamden where he made the transition to play with kids that were going to be playing for Hamden High School the following year. Jess along with three others from that team made the Hamden High School team as freshman and started for them that year. Growing up in a hockey / skating family he was mostly directed by his dad Bill Gerosa, former Div. I Notre Dame Green Nights Head coach (1998-2013) and his mother Jolyne Kane who really taught him to skate and the power of the edge and stride! Jess left Hamden High School his Jr. year with an opportunity to attend Salisbury School, in Salisbury CT for an opportunity to take his education and hockey to the next level. This move had him looked at by several schools such as Quinnipiac University, Meramec, St. Michaels, Yale University and others. He decided to attend St. Lawrence University, Canton NY class of 1998. During his freshman year Jess walked onto the men’s varsity team and was a practice player there for nearly three years and was coached by one of the best coaches in NCAA history Joe Marsh. Two shoulder surgeries left him looking to be involved in the game at a different level. Jess received a second degree from Penn State University and was an assistant coach there for the Men’s Team under head coach Joe Battista (1998-2000). Jess is still very involved in the game he loves. He still plays weekly, officiates at the 16-18U AAA levels and is attending his level five USA Hockey coaching certification seminar in 2023. Jess uses every ounce of his playing and coaching experience to help coach at the U16 AAA Level and focuses on skill development, skating, team work and the development of responsible young men.
